- Custom Camper Extension -

I built this camper extension to extend my sleeping space from 5ft to 6ft. It also serves as storage for the bulk of my camping gear along with being my cooking station.
This build was inspired by Bryan @offgridbackcountryadventures.

Shelter

The extension has 2×2 framing with 1/2″ plywood, coated with 3 coats of natural stain and polyurethane.

Bedroom

The truck bed is insulated with a Bedrug. The Leer topper is also insulated/lined with carpet. My bed is a 3″ memory foam mattress with another 2″ foam mattress stacked on top of it.

Storage

The extension has 2 shelves which store my cooking utensils as well as coffee, tea, spices, fuel, plates and bowls. There are also magnet strips and hooks where I keep eating utensils and other miscellaneous items.

Door & Window

The door and window are mounted with t-hinges from Harbor Freight.
The window is plexiglass mounted with screws and insulated with silcone. A 12″ strut is used to assist in opening and closing it.
Both the door and window are secured with bolt latches.

Skylight

Made from the same plexiglass as the window and mounted the same. Makes for great stargazing and additional natural light.

Fold Down Table

The fold down table is mounted to the door with butt hinges and chain to screw eyes. The table is a scrap piece of mdf from an old cabinet. This serves as my main cooking station.

Load Process

When not in use the extension is stored on my woodworking table with casters. The height is just right for easy loading and unloading.
I roll the workbench up to the tailgate and just slide the camper extension on to the tailgate and push it into the bed.
