- Audi A8 D3 Oil Change -

Tools/Supplies Needed

  • Floor Jack
  • Jack stands
  • Ramps
  • 6mm hex socket (oil drain plug)
  • 1 1/4″ socket (oil filter)
  • Ratchet
  • 9 quarts of engine oil: Mobil 1 0w30 Full Synthetic European Car Formula
  • Oil Filter: Mahle OX3504D
  • Rags

Step 1

  • Drive front of vehicle up on ramps
  • Jack up rear of the vehicle and place on jack stands
  • This levels the vehicle and allows for all the oil to be drained

Step 2

  • Get under the vehicle preferably with a creeper
  • Locate drain bolt
  • Place a catch pan near the drain bolt
  • Oil shoots out so place pan accordingly

Step 3

  • Remove drain bolt with 6mm hex socket 
  • Let drain for 10-15minutes (pulling oil cap off can speed this up)
  • Clean drain bolt
  • Retighten drain bolt to a snug fit (factory rec is 18ft-lbs)

Step 4

  • Remove engine cover (if applicable)
  • Locate oil filter behind engine in the center of the windshield
  • Remove engine oil filter with a 1 1/4″ socket 
  • Have a rag available as oil will leak while carrying it out of the housing and over the engine

Step 5

  • Remove old filter from the cap by pulling and unclipping from cap
  • Remove old 0-ring from cap with flathead screwdriver
  • Prelube and install new o-ring (comes with filter)
  • Clip in new oil filter to cap

Step 6

  • Reinstall oil filter 
  • Hand tighten filter then finish off with ratchet 
  • Filter cap should fit flush with housing

Step 7

  • Locate oil cap
  • Place funnel in hole
  • Fill with 8 quarts of oil
  • Check oil level with dipstick (make sure its within hash marks)
  • Add oil as needed up to 9 quarts

  •  Reset oil life reader with VCDS
